“I am proud to lead Apple Tree Dental of California, serving the San Mateo County community and providing excellent dental care for everyone, including those who face barriers to care,” Dr. Bonnie Jue said. “We provide accessible and high-quality dental care across the lifespan and we believe that good dental health should start very early on. Our goal is to provide a ‘dental home’ for our patients, for life.”
SAN MATEO, CA, March 29, 2017: Apple Tree Dental of California today announced that Bonnie Jue, DDS, has been named California Operating Officer of the Apple Tree dental centers in San Mateo County. Dr. Jue has merged her family’s highly successful San Francisco-based practice into Apple Tree, to fulfill her lifelong mission of bringing accessible, innovative dental care to diverse populations and age groups.
In this new position, Dr. Jue will provide operational leadership for Apple Tree Dental’s two California locations, while forming and managing relationships with community partners to expand Apple Tree’s impact in local communities.
Apple Tree Dental of California opened in San Mateo in 2015, with support from the Peninsula Health Care and Sequoia Healthcare Districts, to provide access to a new, innovative model of dental care. Apple Tree's multispecialty, integrated care is nationally recognized for its pioneering approach to integrating dental care as part of overall health and wellbeing. With a team of professionals that includes specially trained dentists and a multilingual staff, Apple Tree provides preventive care and treatment at its Centers for Dental Health in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, and through its mobile On-Site Care programs. The On-Site program allows Apple Tree to set up inside community sites and offers everything a patient would find in an Apple Tree Dental Center, including the most advanced equipment and highly trained dentists and technicians.
“I am proud to lead Apple Tree Dental of California, serving the San Mateo County community and providing excellent dental care for everyone, including those who face barriers to care,” Dr. Jue said. “We provide accessible and high-quality dental care across the lifespan and we believe that good dental health should start very early on. Our goal is to provide a ‘dental home’ for our patients, for life.”
Prior to Apple Tree, Dr. Jue worked for 22 years in her family’s private dental practice in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood. Dr. Jue’s father, Vincent Jue, DDS, started the practice more than 40 years ago.
In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Jue has worked extensively in the community, providing education to dental students and collaborating with school districts and public agencies to provide dental health services and education to underserved communities.
Using a service-learning model, Dr. Jue has created and developed new course curriculum focused on prevention of dental disease, effective communication skills and community outreach. She also collaborates with community organizations and clinics to provide inter-professional education and clinical externship opportunities, both locally and across the country, for senior dental students. Dr. Jue coordinates student programs with community partners, including the San Francisco Department of Public Health Community-Oriented Primary Care health centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers and other non-profit community-based clinics in San Francisco, Alameda, and San Mateo counties.
In addition, Dr. Jue volunteers her time giving oral health presentations to pre-schools, elementary and middle schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, and provides in-service trainings to staff members and caregivers in community organizations and schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She has collaborated with Head Start agencies to provide dental examinations for their predominantly bilingual Spanish-speaking and Chinese-speaking students.
“We are fortunate to have Dr. Jue leading the way in California,” said Michael Helgeson, DDS, Founder and CEO of Apple Tree Dental. “Dr. Jue’s vast experience educating dental students, providing dental care through private practice and working with underserved communities makes her an ideal choice to manage and grow the Apple Tree practice in Northern California.”
Dr. Jue is an assistant clinical professor and research investigator at University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry and University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. She completed a five-year accelerated pre-dental program at University of the Pacific in 1988 and earned her doctorate of dental surgery from University of the Pacific in 1993. Dr. Jue is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Francisco Dental Society, and is seeking membership in the San Mateo County Dental Society. She also serves on the San Mateo Oral Health Coalition.
